IAA to continue - Security measures stepped up
Frankfurt am Main, 12 September 2001. "That we allow terrorist forces to take away our freedom of action is something that must not be allowed to happen." These were the words used by the Association of the German Automobile Industry when it was decided that the 59th International Motor Show (IAA) should open its doors on Thursday, 13th September 2001, albeit with appropriate security measures in place.
At noon on 13th September, which has been declared a day of state mourning, all visitors and exhibitors across the entire exhibition grounds will observe two minutes of silence to commemorate the victims of this terrible terrorist attack.
Many thousand national and international journalists are currently on the exhibition grounds. Despite some cancellations of press events, the exhibitors will be available for contacts with the press.
Social events as well as all show elements in conjunction with product presentations scheduled to take place in the next two days have been called off.
Extensive measures to provide extra security have been agreed with the Land of Hesse and the appropriate police authorities.
