Dopo ben dieci ore e passa di silenzio sull’argomento, l’account Twitter PlayStation č stato aggiornato con un link a un post sul PlayStation.Blog, con il quale Sony ha deciso di fare luce sull’errore 8001050F e sulle sue conseguenze che da ormai quasi una giornata affliggono le PS3 “Fat” in giro per il mondo.

Sony ha spiegato di aver identificato il problema in un bug nel funzionamento dell’orologio di sistema, impostato a quanto pare erroneamente per includere l’inesistente 29 febbraio 2010 ma trovatosi di colpo col 1 marzo del PSN. Le conseguenze conosciute sono al momento le seguenti:

* Data di PS3 resettata al 1 gennaio 2000
* Visualizzazione dell’errore 8001050F in fase di connessione al PSN e nel tentativo di cambiare data e ora di sistema
* Quando si prova a lanciare un gioco, errore nei Trofei che costringe a uscire
* Impossibilitŕ di riprodurre video presi dal PSN

Sony ha anche fatto sapere che conta di risolvere il problema durante le prossime 24 ore (ora un po’ meno, quindi per domani sera all’incirca), invitando chi non ha una PS3 Slim a non usare la console, per evitare errori imprevedibili tra cui la possibile perdita di dati.

[UPDATE] We have received some clarification from informed hardware buffs with information regarding why some Phats units are not affected, and why some Slim units are. Hit the cut for more information.
The gist of the issue is that the ARM SYSCON CPU that is used to power up the front panel of the ps3, it is responsible for doing things like sleep mode, eject, RTC etc. is an old batch that sony picked up from the shelf like other manufacturers that has that calendar year bug regarding feburary 29th on certain periods.
In other words the front system panel ARM CPU RTC is saying its Feb 29th, while your ps3 console is saying its March 1st, causing the ps3 system clock and the real time clock to desync, messing up security measures like Digital Rights management software and sometimes games that relies on clocks for whatever reason. As well as signing up to the playstation network… This CPU is always on even when your PS3 isn’t plugged
This problem is also happening with various development PS3 models as you well know, particulary the ones that has the emotion engine cpu/gpu for ps2 dev.
This is the one of the same type of CPUs that is powering up mobile devices like zune and blackberries, they have been affected with this bug, so they done some software patches. A syscon update can also fix this problem
The Slims ps3s aren’t affected because they use a newer up to date revision on the syscon cpu that fixes this bug.
A quick way to fix this is to remove the RTC battery for at least 5-10 min and plug it back in, you will see the date and time reset, and voila… Or wait 11 hours i guess for this problem to mysteriously clear? FW update might be possible but because the DRM is screwy and updates rely on that, it could work against it.
We hope this helps clarify the problem, and we appreciate any reports you provide letting us know if your Slim or Phat PS3s are similarly affected.

Abbiamo ricevuto alcuni chiarimenti da esperti hw sul perchč alcune ps3 fat non sono affette e perchč alcune slim lo sono.
La ragione del problema č la CPU ARM SYSCON che serve ad alimentare il pannello frontale della ps3, relativo all'accessione, standby, eject etc., si tratta di 'vecchie' forniture (direi riciclate ndr) recuperate da altri produttori che hanno un bug nel calendario per quanto concerna il 29 febbraio di alcuni anni. In poche parole questa
CPU ha settato come data il 29 febbraio, mentre per PS3 la data corretta č 1 marzo e tutto ciň causa un 'desync' tra l'ora di sistema e l'RTC (real time clock) interno della console 'incasinando' i DRM, la gestione del software e l'avvio dei giochi che 'testano' data/ora per qualche ragione. Idem per la connessione al PSN. Questa CPU č sempre 'accesa' anche se la console non č connessa all'alimentazione.
Questo problema si č verificato anche con unitŕ di debug per gli sviluppatori. Queste CPU sono le medesime che alimentano device portatili come gli Zune e i Blackberry, che sono stati anch'essi affetti dal problema e poi 'corretti' con delle patch software. Un aggiornamento di Syscon sistema la cosa.
Le PS3 slim sono esenti dal problema perchč equipaggiate con CPU piů nuove e revisionate che hanno ovviato al bug.
Un modo rapido per sistemare il tutto e togliere la batteria sulla MoBo per circa 5-10 min (invalidando l'eventuale garanzia causa apertura della console ndr), e come per magia data ed ora verranno resettate...Oppure attendere 11 ore (presumo le 0.00 GMT al momento del post ndr) e come per magia veder corretto il problema?
Un aggiornamento di FW potrebbe essere possibile, ma considerato che i DRM sono 'sputtanati' e gli aggiornamenti fanno affidamento a questi ultimi dovrebbe 'forzare' la cosa.
Speriamo che questo possa servire a chiarire un po' il problema.....
